MIDWEST CENTRAL HIGH SCHOOL
COURSE OUTLINE FOR INSTRUCTIONAL COMPUTER APPLICATIONS I
Students will be introduced to the fundamentals of computer operations. They will receive hands on experience and receive instruction in software programs that emphasize skills in word processing and tables.
Week 1- Week 6- Students will review or learn correct fingering techniques for all keys including the number key pad and symbols. Students will demonstrate an improvement in techniques, speed, and accuracy. Students will be responsible for working on a simple document with correct grammar.
Week 7- Week 9- Students will continue to work on speed and accuracy. They will learn to center a document and begin skills on composing memos and letters. Student will participate in bi-weekly timed writings with a two minute timing.
Week 10- Week 12- Speed and accuracy is emphasized in this period also. Correct grammar will also be emphasized as a continuing skill. Students will learn how to do proofreading and use proofreading marks to make corrections.
Week 13- Week 18- Speed and accuracy work is continued. Students will learn the basics of proper processing of reports, such as quotes, numbers, and titles. They will learn how to type a bibliography, title page, and how to incorporate references within a report. Work during this time period will also include the processing of tables.
