LINDA WALKER  INSTRUCTOR

The Family and Consumer Science Department at Midwest Central High School is alive and well. This is a one person department.  All classes with the exception of the CDA class are one semester. All classes are open to all students, with the exception of CDA, which is only offered to Juniors and Seniors. The following classes are offered

           Foods I

           Foods II

           Food Service

            Child Development

           CDA (Child Development Associate)

           Embroidery- Instructor: Teresa Hill

The Foods room has four units with electric stoves that will accommodate 16 students.  The food is obtained and delivered from a local grocery store.  There is an adequate food budget to maintain a quality program.

Our  CDA class has been very successful and is viewed as a win-win situation for the student and the community.  We have had five students who have been awarded the CDA certification and are currently employed in the field of child care.  Sophomores apply for admittance to this class.  They are then screened.  As Juniors these students attend class one hour a day for the whole year and work one or two hours at a day care work site.  As seniors, they continue their work site hours. Before they can take the CDA test, they must fulfill the following  criteria:

             l    Must be 18

2.      Must have graduated

3.      Must have completed 120 classroom hours  (Junior year)

4.      Must have 480 hours at the work site

The Food Service Class can be taken for one semester or for the entire year.  It is a skills class designed to prepare students for an entry-level food service position.
